Venable partner and former Senator Mark L. Pryor was quoted in an April 7, 2015 Bloomberg article on the need for increased product inspections at the border. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates over 10,000 products, only inspects less than one percent of imports under its jurisdiction. Knowing they are unlikely to be detected, foreign manufactures continue to supply dangerous goods to U.S. retailers in an effort to cut costs.
"I would like to see more inspections," said Pryor, who sponsored the 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. "If people know that stuff is going to get caught at the border coming in, there's going to be less incentive overseas to cheat."
