Former star of "The O.C." Mischa Barton filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Nuala Barton, her mother and former manager, of fraud and breach of contract. The suit claims that Barton's mother stole money from the actress, forged her name on contracts, started a clothing brand using Barton's name without her permission and forced Barton out of her Beverly Hills home. Venable partner Alex M. Weingarten and associate Leslie A. Eggers are representing Barton.

In an interview with ABC's Good Morning America on April 8, 2015, Weingarten said, "We brought this action on behalf of our client Mischa Barton against Nuala Barton so that Mischa can get closure to move on with her career and to get to the bottom of what happened to all of her money." Speaking with Inside Edition the same day, Weingarten added, "She's been excluded from the house to the point where she came back and was physically prohibited from coming into the house, I mean she can't even visit her dogs."
