Venable counsel Courtney Sullivan
recently appeared on two episodes of Al Jazeera America's Inside Story
to discuss the military detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Sullivan discussed the legal difficulties of transferring prisoners from the facility and ultimately closing it down. She described the problems and controversies around the facility as a "lack of planning from the outset" noting that it was originally a place to house prisoners of war before it housed those with ties to the USS Cole bombing and the September 11 attacks. Sullivan also acknowledged the legal difficulties in continuing to detain people "the farther away we are from battlefield hostilities."
