Venable partner Jessica Grant was quoted in an October 30, 2015 article in The Recorder on the use of social media in jury selection. Checking social media, blog posts, and online dating profiles has become more common for some attorneys while researching perspective jurors for a trial. However, the practice raises ethical questions about what constitutes forbidden "juror contact" and there is little precedent addressing it at this time.
Grant said social media can be a valuable tool but often does not have time to take advantage of it. She prefers to use jury consultants because they are "acutely aware of the legal and ethical boundaries of this type of research."
