On April 12, 2016, Variety released its 2016 Legal Impact Report featuring the top in-house attorneys, litigators, and transactional lawyers in the entertainment industry. For the third consecutive year, Venable partner Michele Mulrooney was featured in the annual report. Partner Alan Epstein also made his debut on this year's list.

Variety noted that Mulrooney handles estate planning and family law counseling for some of the entertainment industry's leading names including movie stars, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members and sports franchise owners. "A lot of the times, I’m the quarterback, handling everything that isn't entertainment-specific," said Mulrooney. "I might be involved in their investment adviser meetings or their litigation."

In their profile of Epstein, Variety highlighted his transactional and tax work on behalf of top talent and executives that can span entertainment, technology, and commerce. "There's an increasing willingness of talent to go transactional, stepping out of their traditional roles...and pursuing entrepreneurial activities," said Epstein.
