The Daily Journal has again included Venable partner Susan Hollander in its list of Top Women Lawyers in California for 2017. The list recognizes women with outstanding achievements within California's legal community. The Daily Journal reviewed hundreds of nominations from law firms, public agencies, nonprofits, and universities to select this group of women. The full list was published in a special supplement on May 24, 2017.
Discussing her practice, Hollander said, "Trademark cases are more theoretical…It's more an exercise of the mind." At any given time, she said she can have a dozen matters pending aimed at protecting the power behind her clients' brands. She added, "Trade dress cases are really interesting because the test is subjective…The test is whether the consumer public would be confused and that’s a subjective test so there's a lot of room for creativity." Asked about what makes her successful in her practice, she pointed to her "theoretical bend," saying, "I was interested in philosophy even before I went to law school…I came out of the box doing trademark."
