Jamie Barnett was quoted on January 25, 2018, on the ongoing federal investigation of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency alert notifying residents about a ballistic missile threat.
Commenting on whether the false alarm could happen elsewhere, Barnett said, "Some local authorities are very sophisticated and experienced about alerts, and some are not. Training, exercises and strong management protocols can be encouraged by IPAWS, but it is still largely up to the local and state jurisdictions. The incident in Hawaii is likely a wakeup call for officials around the country."
