On November 15, 2018, Alex Weingarten, was recognized by Hillcrest Country Club with the Edgar F. Magnin "Community Service Award." The Magnin Award is presented each year to the emerging leader who has demonstrated leadership and active participation in service to our community, and was created more than 30 years ago in memory of Hillcrest member and community leader Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin.

Community Service and civic engagement have always been a big part of Alex's life. Alex has been involved with the Jewish Federation since 2007, serving in a variety of leadership roles including immediate past chair of the Legal Division and current chair of the Community Engagement Initiative. Alex is a member of the Federation's Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. He is also an alumnus of the Federation's New Leaders Project and a member of the Jewish Federations of North America Young Leadership Cabinet. Alex is also on the Board of Trustees for the Junior Statesmen Foundation, a non-partisan, student-run and led organization dedicated to the mission of strengthening American democracy by educating and preparing high school students for life-long involvement and responsible leadership in a democratic society.
