On March 27, 2019, Jared Stout commented in POLITICO Space regarding Vice President Mike Pence’s goal to set 2024 as the deadline to send a human to the moon.
The effort should draw from a wide swath of the private space sector, including everyone from traditional contractors to smaller startups, said Stout, a policy adviser for Venable LLP and former chief of staff at the National Space Council. "When President Kennedy launched our human lunar exploration program in 1962, we had absolutely no idea how we were going to do it. In fact, we didn't even know if people could survive a trip to the Moon," Stout said. "Today, we have nearly 60 years of experience in human spaceflight and systems that are on the precipice of launch. The vice president got it absolutely right, what we need is to suit up and make it happen, and we will."
