On June 17, 2019, Jared Stout joined Politico for a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) discussing the Artemis program and the new race to the moon. During the live Q&A, Stout addressed such topics as how government, industry, and the academic community can work together to make the Artemis program a reality, and the long-term objectives of returning to the moon.

"Really, the idea of going back to the Moon came from Space Policy Directive 1 (SPD1)," said Stout. "The whole point of this order was for the return to the Moon to be a long-term sustainable effort that involves industry and international involvement. So, if we are doing this right, there will be a lot more than just flags and footprints, to include habitation on the surface."
