Alex Weingarten and Rachel Bressi prevailed in an anti-SLAPP motion defending actor Will Ferrell and Funny or Die, Inc. from frivolous claims concerning the plaintiff’s involvement with The Groundlings improvisational comedy troupe.
Judge Elizabeth R. Feffer in the Superior Court in California threw out the lawsuit filed against Ferrell and the site, ruling that the plaintiff “failed to demonstrate a reasonable probability of success on the merits.”
“We are thrilled to have a swift and final resolution to this matter,” said Weingarten. “Plaintiff is a vexatious litigant whose hobby is suing celebrities for kicks. This is exactly the sort of abuse that the anti-SLAPP statute was intended to protect against. We intend to vigorously pursue the Plaintiff for the fees and costs associated with obtaining this judgment in our favor.”
