On August 12, 2020, Celeste Brecht was recognized among the Daily Journal’s Top 40 Under 40, an annual report that honors the achievements of California’s top young lawyers.
The profile features Celeste’s thoughts on why she likes being a litigator and a practice group leader and what skills are valuable for both. It also highlights her diverse client base and notable recent wins, including an April dismissal with prejudice of federal and state class claims against client IronSource USA, Inc., an internet advertising company. The claims were filed by the New Mexico attorney general against multiple digital advertising networks and an app developer, citing the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) and state privacy laws. The complaint alleged that the companies engaged in “surreptitious acquisition of [children’s] personal information for the purposes of profiling and targeting them for commercial exploitation.”
"As a society, we are trying to figure out how best to handle these privacy issues," Celeste told the Daily Journal in her profile. "Here the AG was looking to shut down the practice of embedding ad code in games that had an audience of children, claiming that serving ads to end-users was a privacy violation."
Celeste was also recently selected by Law360 to be on their nationwide list of under 40 rising star attorneys.
