On February 26, 2021, Allyson Baker was quoted in Reuters Regulatory Intelligence on President Biden’s pick to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Rohit Chopra.
According to the article, Chopra is an experienced regulator who helped create the agency under former president Barack Obama. His most recent government experience has been serving on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where he was seated with unanimous Senate approval. It put him into a key role in high-profile actions over Big Tech data abuses that led to calls in both parties for tighter oversight.
"He won’t need to turn on the lights and say, 'What do we do now?'" said Baker. "He will be stepping into an agency he knows well and will be set to take off and move ahead. He also will be dealing with a lot of good career people already on board and capable of using the CFPB tool kit in a lot of ways to enforce the consumer finance laws."
