Sean M. McCarthy

Associate

Sean's practice focuses on patent litigation and USPTO contested proceedings with an emphasis on the mechanical and electrical-related arts. Sean's experience also includes preparing freedom-to-operate opinions and patent prosecution.

Sean is also currently an Adjunct Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at Manhattan College where he teaches Legal Aspects of Engineering to senior and graduate engineering students.  Legal Aspects of Engineering is an interdepartmental course covering basic legal doctrines, professional-client relationship, design, and practice problems. Topics include the American judicial system, contracts, quasi-contracts, agency, licensing, negligence and products liability, client obligations, construction process, copyrights, patents, and trademarks.

While in law school, Sean participated in the Brooklyn Law Incubator & Policy Clinic in which he assisted entrepreneurs with various copyright, patent and trademark-related matters. Additionally, Sean served as a student intern to the Honorable Denis R. Hurley of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and was also an Associate Managing Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law.
