Venable partner Brian Turoff was quoted in a November 14, 2016, Bloomberg BNA article on how businesses are complying with the Labor Department's new overtime rule. The rule, which takes effect on December 1, 2016, raises the salary threshold to qualify for overtime to $47,476. The election of Donald Trump as president raises the possibility of the rule being revised and Trump indicated during the campaign he might support a carve out for small businesses. Any changes to the rule would likely be at least a year away.

Turoff suggested that businesses that can afford to absorb the overtime expenses maintain current salary levels until there is clarity from Trump's Labor Department on the rule. For businesses hoping the salary threshold is revised, Turoff said, "there's no reason you can't take that gamble because you'd still be complying with the law."
