Venable partner Jonathan Pompan was quoted in an April 19, 2013 CFPB Watch article on the differing views of enforcement used by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). A recent ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting forum became heated during a discussion between the CFPB Enforcement Director Kent Markus, who described the agency’s methods as fact based, and American Bankers Association Vice President and Senior Counsel Nessa Feddis, who described the methods as political.

According to Pompan, who participated in the forum, it is difficult to convince CFPB officials to drop a case. Pompan said he advises clients that “if you present your story well’’ there is a better chance the CFPB will better understand their perspective.
