Venable partner Ed Wilson was quoted in a July 18, 2011 article for National Mortgage News. The article focused on President Barack Obama's nomination of former Ohio attorney general Richard Cordray as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Speaking about President Obama's inability to bypass Senate confirmation through a recess appointment or the Vacancy Act, Wilson said, "Ways around the Senate confirmation process apparently are not available to the president" because the CFPB is a new agency and President Obama cannot claim there is a vacancy.
