Please join Venable LLP for a complimentary webinar on "State Enforcement Activity in the Consumer Financial Services Industry" on Friday, September 7, 2018.
At a speech during the National Association of Attorneys General meeting in February, the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection Acting Director Mick Mulvaney stated, "We are going to be looking to the state regulators and the states' attorney general for a lot more leadership when it comes to enforcement . . . . Why we think we know better how to protect consumers in your state than you do surprises me a little bit. I don’t think you'll be seeing us doing much of that anymore," Mulvaney remarked.
During the webinar, members of Venable's Consumer Financial Services and State Attorneys General practices will discuss what you and your company need to know about how states are responding in the new Trump/Mulvaney era. The speakers will share their experiences from the front lines and offer strategies to help you navigate the evolving state regulatory landscape.
Topics will include:
- States' Dodd-Frank Act authority to enforce federal consumer financial protection laws;
- How states' investigative powers differ from each other and from those of the Bureau in important ways;
- Recent state consumer finance enforcement activity;
- State efforts to influence federal consumer finance enforcement; and
- Federal preemption of state consumer financial protection efforts.
This session focuses on providers of consumer financial products and services and their service providers, including advertisers, in such markets as student loans, mortgage lending and servicing, auto lending, small dollar lending, consumer reporting, consumer credit and related services, money transmission and check cashing, prepaid cards, debt collection, and debt relief services.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and will receive a copy of the presentation and other materials following the live event.
