As enforcement activity has lagged under recent Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) leadership, states have stepped up their supervision and enforcement efforts. For some states, including New York, Pennsylvania, and California, those efforts include establishing their own "mini-CFPBs." This webinar will explore the effect of these mini-CFPBs in expanding states' authority to investigate and enforce consumer protection laws. Discussion topics include the possible effects of:
- Broadening state regulators' authority and resources;
- Licensing and examination requirements for new/previously unregulated industries;
- Increasing state-initiated UDAAP and other investigations or enforcement actions; and
- Conflicts between state mini-CFPBs and federal laws and regulations, including CFPB regulatory "sandboxes."
