Amazon announced April 4 that Alexa now has skills that are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Amazon’s development of these HIPAA-compliant skills is significant.
Until Amazon could ensure that the health information created, received, and transmitted by Alexa could be kept confidential and secure, Alexa could not be used by HIPAA-governed hospitals and other health-care providers and health insurance companies.
