In the November 20, 2013 edition of TRDaily, Venable partner and retired Navy Rear Admiral Jamie Barnett praised the selection of retired Navy Rear Admiral David Simpson as the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) new chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. Admiral Simpson’s background in cybersecurity was cited as a chief reason for his selection. A 1982 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a master’s in systems technology from the Naval Postgraduate School, Admiral Simpson was vice director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and director-communications and information services for U.S. Forces Iraq in Baghdad from 2009 to 2010.

“He is steeped in networks and cybersecurity,” said Admiral Barnett who served as bureau chief from 2009 to 2012. “I think this signals where Chairman Wheeler would like to go. I was in the Pentagon with him when he was a new Navy Captain. He has had a great career, finishing up as the Vice Director at DISA. We can expect good things.”
