Venable partner and retired Navy Rear Admiral Jamie Barnett was quoted in an April 10, 2013 Law360 article on new cybersecurity initiatives included in President Obama’s proposed budget. The proposed budget would allocate billions of dollars to the Departments of Homeland Security, Commerce, and Justice among others to fund research, outreach and information-sharing programs that can identify and mitigate cyberthreats.

“In a day when literally billions and billions of dollars are being trimmed from the federal budget, it's not surprising that money is going to cybersecurity given the emphasis put on the subject by the new executive order,” Admiral Barnett said commenting on the new proposals. “If you're going to come forward with an initiative that is supposed to take a year, there needs to be some type of national investment in that.”
