Jamie L. Edmonson


Jamie Edmonson is a partner in Venable's Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Group. Jamie brings more than 20 years of experience focusing on commercial bankruptcy, restructurings, insolvencies and liquidations, and regularly represents debtors, statutory committees (both creditor and equity), lenders, asset purchasers, landlords and lessees.

Additionally, Jamie has represented public and non-public debtor corporations, secured and unsecured creditors, official committees, trustees and asset purchasers in bankruptcy and restructuring matters. She also has extensive experience in all aspects of the chapter 11 restructuring process spanning many industries including: information technology, retail, food, energy, construction, real estate, telecommunications and manufacturing.

Jamie was elected to the 2017 Global Network of Women Committee for the Turnaround Management Association. She also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Alex Kozinski in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals from 1995 to 1996.

Significant Matters

  • Real Estate, including representing creditors as well as defendants in preference actions in several homebuilder cases.  Jamie has also represented the debtors in two separate condo/office projects, one located in Washington, D.C., and the other in Manhattan.  She has also represented the debtor in a former Los Angeles hotel which was purchased and developed into a mixed-use property. 
  • Retail, including representing three regional grocery chains in their chapter 11 cases.  Jamie also represented the chapter 11 trustee in a large discount chain bankruptcy, as well as representing a national discount chain through its chapter 11 process.  She also represented a Los Angeles-based membership retail chain through its chapter 11 process, in which all creditors were paid in full.
  • Manufacturing, including her representation of manufacturers of medical devices and plastic bottles used in the retail distribution of bottled water and soda.  She also represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the case of a large paper and pulp manufacturer and the Statutory Committee of Equity Security Holders in the case of a manufacturer of TV set-top boxes.
  • Energy, including representing the developer of geothermal energy plants in its chapter 11 case.  Jamie also represented the liquidating trust of a solar panel manufacturer.  She was also special counsel to a large electricity service provider during its chapter 11 case.
  • Financial, including representing the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in a large commercial real estate lending company.  She also represented, as financial advisor, one of the largest sub-prime mortgage lenders during its chapter 11 case.
  • Education, including representing the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 case of one of the largest suppliers of supplemental educational products, equipment and curriculums to the pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade market in the United States.


Jamie is a Certified YMCA Swim Official.  In addition, she is an avid distance runner, having completed five marathons.
