On May 16, 2018, Laura Bouyea received the Woman of the Year award from My Sister's Place Women’s Center (MSPWC) for her work in fostering the values of commitment and support of woman and children in need. Ms. Bouyea serves as chairperson of the Women's Leadership Council for MSPWC, a group of local businesswomen who work together to raise the profile of the center and ensure its viability and its programs. She has been instrumental in expanding the Leadership Council's membership over the last several years, has hosted an annual networking event for MSPWC at Venable's Baltimore office, and has volunteered at MSPWC, including bringing her junior Girl Scout troop to volunteer. MSPWC also noted Ms. Bouyea's decade of service to the Maryland Food Bank, including her chairmanship of the 26th, 27th, and 30th Annual Lawyers' Campaigns Against Hunger, and her work as a member of the board of directors of V-LINC, a nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities.

My Sister's Place Women’s Center, a division of Catholic Charities, is a comprehensive resource center for homeless and impoverished women and their children in Baltimore City. Services include housing assistance, healthcare services, education and life skills opportunities, case management, personal services, and links to other community providers. Three meals are provided each day to women and their children. In addition, the center offers a culinary and customer service internship called Learn to Earn.
