Venable partner Stu Ingis was profiled by Law360 in a December 3, 2012 article on his recent Law360 MVP award in Privacy & Consumer Protection. Ingis was selected for his efforts on behalf of the online industry to improve industry standards pertaining to the collection of internet data for targeted ads.

As general counsel for the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA), Ingis has been heavily involved in some of the DAA's important achievements, including the implementation of the AdChoices icon, which links users to a site allowing them to opt out of targeted ads. “The program reached critical mass at the time of the White House announcement,” said Ingis commenting on the initiative. “Creating a strong solution eliminates the need for regulators to impose their own solutions on the industry,” he added. Commenting on a self-regulating standard for the mobile sector, Ingis said, “There's a desire to continue moving these efforts forward…The technology keeps evolving, and we plan to keep nimble and adjust accordingly.”

Praising Ingis’ work in the privacy sector, partner Milo Cividanes said, “From the very beginning, Stu was involved in policy and investigation type work,” adding, “People think of him only as a coalition coordinator, or a lobbyist, but he's so much more than that. The world is not isolated into legislation or litigation — people are advancing their agendas in as many forums as they can and Stu understands that.” Partner Jeff Knowles had similar praise for Ingis, saying, “Stu is one of the most talented and accomplished young lawyers that I have ever worked with…He is really mature and experienced beyond his years. Frankly, he's one of the best connected Washington insiders in town.”

Law360's editorial team chose 113 lawyers out of 500 to honor as MVPs for their achievements in major litigation and transactions between October 2011 and October 2012. This year's MVPs come from 52 law firms and cover 22 practice areas.
