A September 2, 2014 LeadsCon article featured a panel moderated by Venable partner Jonathan Pompan entitled “Staying Current with Consumer Protection: Practical Lessons from Recent Enforcement Actions.” The panel was part of the annual Leadscon 2014 conference and focused on federal investigations into potentially misleading advertising and marketing practices aimed at consumers.

Venable associated Alexandra Megaris, one of the panel’s primary speakers, said, “The FTC is pursuing more actions…It has a lot of muscle and it’s using it.” To stay in compliance, Megaris advised companies to identify the laws they operate under and spot potential issues and identify resources to address them. She also advised companies to put in place written policies and procedures, employee training programs and a strong auditing system. “Don’t wait until the FTC shows up,” she said.
