Matthew B. Bornfreund


Matthew Bornfreund, an associate in Venable's Regulatory Practice in the Washington, DC office, focuses on the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Venable, Matthew worked as an associate in the financial institutions advisory practice at a national law firm, where he represented clients in bank regulatory matters and enforcement matters, including CIDs issued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He also advised on issues and risks associated with a range of fintech activities, including acting as a bank service company, using artificial intelligence in consumer financial services, and issuing or exchanging virtual and cryptocurrency.

Matthew was also an attorney in the legal division at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he reviewed regulatory applications under the Bank Holding Company Act, the Federal Reserve Act, and Regulations H, Y, and K, among others, and assisted in developing Board regulations and policies. During law school, he served as a legal intern in the SCP Division at the Federal Communications Commission.
