Michael J. Wilson

Michael Wilson has experience in complex litigation, including contract disputes, employment law, and shareholder class actions and derivative litigation. Mike has drafted complaints, pre-trial motions, discovery practice, post-trial motions, administrative Statements of Position and appellate briefs. During law school, Mike served as the articles editor for the University of Baltimore Law Review and interned with the Honorable Paul W. Grimm, then-Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland.

Significant Matters

  • Part of a team that won summary judgment for Johns Hopkins University in a breach of contract lawsuit brought by a former medical resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Mike’s contributions included drafting written discovery requests and responses, overseeing service of discovery requests in foreign jurisdictions, preparing for and assisting in the defense of numerous fact witness depositions, and assisting with the deposition of three expert witnesses. Mike also drafted pre-trial discovery motions and assisted in the preparation of the successful dispositive motion.
  • Part of a team that represented Perdue Foods in defending a claim for employment retaliation under the FDA's Food Safety Modernization Act. Mike managed document collection and analysis, conducted legal research, and drafted portions of an administrative Statement of Position in defense of Perdue.
  • Part of a team that won parallel motions for summary judgment and for dismissal for Johns Hopkins Health System Corp. in defending employment-related claims under state and local laws, including retaliation and breach of contract. Mike drafted several discovery motions and motions to seal, and also assisted in drafting dispositive motions, conducted in-depth factual and legal research and analysis for pre-trial motions and hearings, and managed discovery of electronically stored information (ESI) from document identification and retrieval through production and analysis of privilege.
  • Assisted in defending the managing member of a limited liability company in litigation brought by minority members of the LLC for alleged breaches of fiduciary duty. Mike drafted pleadings and discovery materials, oversaw document collection and production efforts, assisted in preparing for the depositions of key witnesses, and deposed the plaintiff’s expert witness.
  • Assisted in the defense of shareholder class action and derivative disputes arising out of mergers or acquisitions, as well as a variety of other shareholder derivative litigation involving allegations of breach of fiduciary duties.
