Michael W. Robinson


Michael Robinson is an AV® Preeminent™ Ranked attorney who brings 30 years of broad litigation experience to resolving business disputes. His practice focuses on commercial disputes, business torts, legal malpractice defense, and the protection of intellectual property rights. His practice emphasizes litigation in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the local state courts in Northern Virginia.

Michael's career includes substantive experience in areas as wide ranging as antitrust litigation, trademark litigation, patent infringement litigation involving computer software and other products, business dissolution litigation, business torts including employee covenants not to compete and fiduciary duty claims, the protection of trade secrets and other commercial proprietary information, and legal malpractice defense in areas involving securities, business transactions, business litigation and patent prosecution.

Significant Matters

Michael has recently represented: an Am Law 100 law firm in litigation brought by a publicly traded company; a publicly traded homebuilder in both commercial and land issue disputes, members of an LLC in litigation over claims arising from the dissolution of the company and alleged violations of fiduciary duty, an international software company in licensing disputes, and a publicly traded movie theatre chain in litigation in the EDVa involving complex real estate lease disputes.


Michael is the current president of the Virginia State Bar. He has served on the Virginia State Bar Council for eight years and the Executive Committee of Council for three years. Michael was selected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Law Foundation. He is the former Chair of the VSB Standing Committee on Legal Ethics, and served on the committee for six years. He previously served on the Faculty of the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course, and was Chair of the VSB Special Committee on Bar Bench-Bar Relations for three years. He also has been active in the local Fairfax County Bar Association and previously served as Chair of the Fairfax Bar Association Circuit Court Committee for two years.
