Venable partner David Strickland was quoted in a September 20, 2016 New York Times article on the government’s new Federal Automated Vehicles Policy. The policy gives the auto industry wide latitude to develop driverless vehicles so long as they are safe. It does not specify any specific procedures or technologies that should be used, leaving those decisions to automakers.

Strickland said the guidelines should allow automakers to "pull this technology together in an expeditious way."
