Kurt Bessel is a patent agent with broad technical experience in industrial equipment design, design for manufacturing, and user interface design in several industries, including aerospace, HVAC compression and systems, retail, and medical technology. Kurt’s experience includes invention intellectual property (IP) training, harvesting and screening, preparation and response of prosecution processes, patent portfolio management, IP strategy optimization, and research and development (R&D).

Prior to joining Venable, Kurt served as a senior patent portfolio analyst for a global medical equipment manufacturing company, where he generated and presented landscape and portfolio analyses for R&D and legal teams to support matters related to mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and Freedom to Operate (FTO), and chaired invention screening teams. Kurt has extensive experience working with inventors, conducting training in IP for non-legal professionals, and IP process automation and optimization, in order to minimize strain on inventor and client resources in the development of a robust portfolio.
