Tim Carter represents and counsels clients in marketing, intellectual property, right of publicity, media, and advertising matters. Tim has substantial experience handling pre-publication review for television shows, documentaries, and advertising campaigns, and has defended numerous media, television, and interactive entertainment companies in intellectual property and content-related litigation. He also counsels clients on an array of advertising and promotional clearance matters, including claim substantiation, dotcom disclosures, sweepstakes, contests, and other promotions.
Prior to joining Venable, Tim was an intellectual property and entertainment litigation associate at a New York law firm, where he represented and defended numerous major media and entertainment companies in a broad range of intellectual property, right of publicity, privacy, advertising, media, and entertainment matters. Tim also counseled content creators on intellectual property, right of publicity, privacy, defamation, and First Amendment matters.
Earlier in his career, Tim worked for a multinational media and entertainment corporation, where he was responsible for pre-publication review of editorial and branded digital content; advising on intellectual property, defamation, newsgathering, and advertising matters; and drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, agreements, and releases.
