Faris Alissa

Alissa Faris is a patent counsel in Venable's Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice in the San Francisco office. Alissa has extensive experience in worldwide patent counseling for biotechnology clients. She focuses on preparation and prosecution in the areas of therapeutic and diagnostic humanized antibodies with application in the treatment, prevention, and diagnosis of cancer, inflammatory diseases, and neurological diseases, as well as application in the field of regenerative medicine. Alissa also has experience in preparing patentability, freedom-to-operate, non-infringement opinions and re-examinations; intellectual property due diligence reviews; and patent litigation.

During law school, Alissa served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Patty Shwartz, Magistrate Judge, of the U.S. District Court of New Jersey. Prior to her legal career, she worked in academia, performing research in the areas of molecular biology and physiology.


Representative Matters

Represented a venture capital firm in the intellectual property due diligence on a target biopharmaceutical company, resulting in a $25 million series D investment in the target company.

  • U.S. Patent No. 7,256,273 – Humanized antibodies that recognize beta amyloid peptide
