Elizabeth A. Kane

Staff Attorney

Elizabeth Kane has over 10 years of experience handling defense against claims involving occupational and para-occupational exposure to asbestos. Liz has served as lead attorney during depositions of hundreds of fact witnesses, examining and cross-examining on a variety of subject matters, including exposure to toxic substances, product identification, alternative exposure, and pain and suffering.

Liz has participated in depositions of numerous experts in products liability cases. She is experienced in all aspects of trial support, including development of key visual presentations for both opening and closing arguments, drafting trial motions, and developing contribution claims for potential verdict reductions. Liz has extensive case management experience supervising other staff attorneys and paralegals to ensure timely compliance with scheduling orders.


Representative Matters

  • Practice group is currently defending a contractor distributor in more than 30,000 asbestos-related personal injury and wrongful death cases filed in the state of Maryland
  • Obtained summary judgment for client and established precedent that cases involving household exposure of workers' family members to toxic substance do not fall within the occupational disease exception of Maryland's wrongful death statute
  • Member of a team that tried to verdict cases involving claims of occupational cancer, lung disease, and wrongful death. Provided key trial support, including visual presentations for the jury and development of contribution claims in a multi-million-dollar jury demand case that ultimately resulted in a defense verdict
  • Adept at successfully handling a high-volume caseload, including monthly court hearings addressing up to 40 cases at a time for determinations of viability of cases to be scheduled for trial
