Prior to joining Venable, Gregory was an associate at a national law firm, where he advised public and private companies and other employers on employee benefits and executive compensation matters that arise in connection with mergers and acquisitions and securities filings.
Gregory also served as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), where he provided legal advice and representation relating to Titles I and IV of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), advised PBGC's appeals board regarding benefit appeals of participants in terminated pension plans, represented PBGC in federal courts concerning participant challenges of PBGC's benefit determinations, and represented PBGC in breach of fiduciary duty actions under ERISA.
Earlier in his career, he interned at the Department of Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control, where he helped investigate and bring administrative enforcement actions against U.S. companies and individuals who violated U.S. economic sanctions by engaging in transactions with blacklisted foreign nations and individuals.
