Mooney Julia

Julia Mooney has broad knowledge of real estate law and extensive experience with all types of complex real estate transactions.   Julia represents both institutional and private owners of real estate, commercial developers, homebuilders, landlords, and tenants in all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisition, development, construction, financing, and all types of commercial leasing.  She provides strategic business solutions for clients by assisting with business planning and deal structuring, and she effectively and efficiently leads transactions from inception to closing.  

Prior to joining Venable, Julia served as in-house counsel to a mixed-use developer based in Chicago, giving her unique insight into the needs of her clients and a practical perspective that is critical to resolving legal issues.

  • Represented Marriott International in the site selection and build-to-suit lease and construction of its global headquarters and flagship hotel in Bethesda, Maryland; this transaction won the Washington Business Journal's "Best Office Lease of the Year" in 2017
  • Represented a Virginia-based developer in the restructuring of a multifamily portfolio of assets
  • Represented an international homebuilder in the acquisition of a local homebuilding company based in North Carolina and the related structuring of its business division
  • Represented a developer in a ground lease of a redevelopment of a nationally branded grocery store and multifamily project in Northern Virginia
  • Represented an international investment management firm in its office and retail leasing, asset management, and financing of several class “A” office buildings and shopping centers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
