Daniel M. Podgorski

Patent Agent

Daniel Podgorski is a registered patent agent who prepares and prosecutes chemistry-related patent applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices. Daniel’s prosecution experience includes pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and personal care products, organic solar cells, and biotechnology. He is also skilled at performing patentability investigations and freedom to operate analyses. 

Prior to joining Venable, Daniel was a primary patent examiner at the USPTO, where he examined patent applications in the fields of pharmacology and chemistry. In this role, he focused on the application of patent law in the examination of patent applications, conducted extensive prior art searches, and collaborated with attorneys and inventors to identify patentable subject matter.

As a researcher, Daniel worked on the development of a bismuth triflate catalyzed synthesis of cyclic acetals, which was published in the scientific journal Synthesis in 2010.  His graduate work focused on studies toward the synthesis of (–)-diazaphilonic acid via a Diels-Alder induced dimerization of its monomer, (–)-mitorubrinic acid.
