Before joining Venable in 2018, Doug was an attorney for 24 years at the IP boutique firm Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, where he chaired the firm's Telecommunications and Networks, Medical Devices and Nanotechnology Industry Practice Groups. Doug is a 1994 graduate of Brooklyn Law School, magna cum laude, and holds an M.S. and B.E. in electrical engineering. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, and before the USPTO and several federal courts.
Before starting his law practice, Doug was an electronic systems engineer at Grumman, Hazeltine, and Fairchild-Weston Corporations, where he developed hardware, software, and algorithms for various defense-related communication, navigation, identification, and tracking systems.
Doug is regarded as a “real expert in the field of electronics and mechanics, and a brilliant patent attorney” (Legal 500, 2009).
