Tristan Smith

Tristan Smith advises clients on navigating complex business issues, with an intentional focus on maximizing outcomes and managing risk. Anchored in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), Tristan’s practice includes many corporate facets, including counseling clients on entity formation, stock and asset acquisitions, private equity financing, and state and federal regulatory compliance. Prior to attending law school, Tristan spent time as a political campaign aide, where he supported candidates by researching and developing public policy proposals while gaining valuable insight into relationship building between private sector stakeholders and public sector decision makers.

Tristan also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Henry E. Hudson of the U.S. District Court of Virginia, where he analyzed motions and trials across a broad range of legal issues, conducted legal research, and worked with judicial clerks to make recommendations on pleadings, motions, and rulings.

While attending law school, Tristan served on the Student Bar Association for all three years, including as president during his 3L year, and was a member of the Black Law Student Association. Tristan was the alumni relations editor for the Richmond Law Journal on Law & Technology and a member of the Richmond Law & Business Forum. He also worked as a summer associate at Venable.
