This week Venable announced the addition of prominent environmental and regulatory affairs attorneys, Kathryn Floyd and Jay Johnson, to its Washington office. Floyd is joining as partner and Johnson as of counsel. Floyd and Johnson, who have practiced together for a decade, advise companies in the environmental compliance, regulatory and litigation aspects of large infrastructure and development projects. Their clients include leading names in agricultural biotechnology, mining renewable energy and transportation—including rail, intermodal, port, transit and aviation.

News of their move to Venable was featured in Law360, the Blog of Legal Times, and Thomson Reuters News & Insight’s “Career Tracker” on February 12, 2013.

“We spent a lot of time looking at various opportunities and were so impressed with the marquee environmental and regulatory practice Venable has to offer,” Floyd told Law360 on the decision to move to Venable. “Venable has an enormous amount of resources in DC and a strong government regulations practice, which will allow us to engage in outreach on all levels, including on the Hill and with various agencies.” Speaking about their methodology when advising companies through significant undertakings, Johnson said, “We practice start-to-finish structuring… We're involved from day one, and by working with companies every step of the way, we can help ensure those projects will be successful.” Added Floyd, “These are usually controversial projects, ones where we are fairly certain there will be a legal challenge… Our complementary set of skills allow us to plan those projects in such a way that we are intimately familiar with the administrative record and do not need to hand the matter off to another team when and if it gets to the litigation stage.”
