Last week, Venable announced the addition of four attorneys to its Baltimore office. Max Curran, a former Commissioner with Maryland’s Public Service Commission (PSC), and Will DuBois, an experienced energy and environmental attorney, have joined the firm as partners while Chris Gunderson joins as counsel in the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice and associate Jessica Raba joins the Regulatory Group.

In an August 25, 2014 interview with Law360, Curran said energy companies face many new regulatory requirements at the state level particularly in addressing the increased need for renewable energy and new forms of power. “At the same time, we have a lot of aging infrastructure in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic that requires additional investments, as well as cyberconcerns,” he added. Curran also spoke about how changing federal regulations are putting more demands on energy companies. “It's evolving and placing more and more pressure to have less dependence on traditional fossil fuels and to invest more in renewables and cleaner sources of power, becoming an issue that utility and energy companies regionally and nationally need to grapple with and navigate,” he said. “I’m excited that Venable has a very robust federal practice in D.C. that complements our state practice.”

News of the group’s addition was also featured in Bloomberg on August 26 and the Baltimore Business Journal on August 25.
