William R. Burford


Bill Burford is a partner in Venable's Tax and Wealth Planning practice with over two decades of private practice and private sector experience. Bill focuses his practice on tax, estate and business succession planning, formation and operation of tax-exempt organizations, trust and estate administration, and probate controversies. He has extensive experience with all forms of irrevocable trusts and other estate planning instruments, partnership and LLC agreements, real estate transfers, court petitions, tax returns, audits, and ruling requests.

Outside of legal practice, Bill was a Managing Director at the J.P. Morgan Private Bank, where he worked with clients to identify estate and tax planning opportunities and implemented comprehensive strategies to meet their personal, financial, and charitable objectives. Bill also previously served as a Project Director at The Nature Conservancy, an international conservation organization.

Bill is a frequent author on tax and estate planning issues. He has also been an instructor in the State Bar of California's Continuing Education of the Bar programs and speaks regularly to legal and non-legal audiences on tax and estate planning, trust administration and related topics.
