WASHINGTON, DC (September 11, 2019) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Emily K. Strunk has joined the firm as counsel in the Regulatory Practice in Washington, DC. Ms. Strunk focuses her practice on regulatory matters and consumer protection issues, primarily as they relate to products regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Ms. Strunk works with clients in the food, dietary supplement, medical device, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries to develop and implement strategies for regulatory approvals and clearances, compliance and enforcement actions, crisis management, rulemaking, and public policy issues. Her experience also encompasses matters before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), National Advertising Division, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Customs and Border Protection, and Environmental Protection Agency. She has keen insight into agency thinking when complex situations or applications to new technologies reveal gaps or gray areas in the law. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Strunk worked in marketing, public relations, and fundraising, which allows her to better understand and account for business goals in regulatory strategies. With this perspective informing her legal practice, Ms. Strunk has developed a niche in the area of labeling and claims and the joint jurisdiction of the FDA and the FTC.

Todd A. Harrison, co-chair of the firm's Food and Drug Law Practice, said, "Emily brings with her a wealth of experience navigating consumer protection issues that will add to our already deep bench of talent. She will be an invaluable asset to our preeminent law practice within the food and drug industry."

Claudia A. Lewis, co-chair of the firm's Food and Drug Law Practice, said, "Emily is well versed in the challenges companies face when operating in this complex regulatory environment. Her unique skill set will help our clients mitigate risk while continuing to reach their business objectives. We are excited to welcome her to our practice."

Commenting on her move to Venable, Ms. Strunk said, "Venable has a deep understanding of the regulatory environment and knows how to navigate its complexities while keeping the client's business goals at the forefront. I am thrilled to be joining the team of talented attorneys in the Food and Drug Practice and look forward to bringing strategic solutions to life for our clients."

Ms. Strunk received her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law in 2008 and her B.A., summa cum laude, in Psychology, Political Science, and French from Arizona State University in 1999.
