San Francisco, Calif. (October 9, 2023) – Ten years ago, Venable LLP opened an office in San Francisco, its second office on the West Coast. Over the past decade, the office has seen substantial growth and has expanded from the initial three partners who first opened the office doors to the 37 talented attorneys who work there today.
Venable made the decision to enter the San Francisco market in 2013, starting out in a small, temporary space in South Market. Initially the office started with only IP, litigation, and corporate practices. It has since grown into a full-service office with the addition of an international tax group in 2015, an environmental group in 2017, and the significant addition of a tax and wealth planning practice. The office is now located in a landmark building at 101 California Street in the heart of the city and is home to skilled attorneys handling litigation, corporate and M&A, intellectual property, real estate, environmental, regulatory, tax and wealth planning, and other legal matters for clients in industries such as cannabis, technology, entertainment, and with interests across the globe.
“As I reflect on the past 10 years, I am overcome with feelings of gratitude. We have built something special in San Francisco. And while we're very pleased with what we've collectively built so far, we are actively looking to expand our capabilities and ranks in various areas, such as patent litigation, tech, life sciences, and, of course, real estate. We're still a work in progress and look forward to what we will accomplish in the future,” said Jim Nelson, partner-in-charge of the San Francisco office.
