Jonathan Pompan, partner and chair of Venable's Consumer Financial Services Practice Group, will present on current legal and regulatory issues in the receivables management sector at the 2023 RMAI Executive Summit on Tuesday, August 1 in Monterey, California.

During the panel, industry attorneys and thought leaders will address key topics such as the Supreme Court’s consideration of cases on the CFPB’s constitutionality and the Chevron deference framework (when courts defer to federal agency interpretation of statutes). Attendees can also expect to learn the latest on CFPB proposals, such as initiatives like a terms and conditions registry, an enforcement action database, open banking, and more; and new limitations on noncompete agreements promoted by the FTC and others. In addition, the panel will examine the evolving federal and state regulatory approach to telemarketing, privacy and data security, and the use of AI, chatbots, and other technological advancements. The panel will consider the repercussions that a decade of active CFPB supervision and examination of nonbanks has had on the receivables management industry. The diverse perspectives represented by panelists will shed light on the multifaceted impact these and other current issues may have on operations and compliance risk management. Attendees are encouraged to help contribute to the conversation and to ask questions.
