District of Columbia

The D.C. Council approved an extensive update to the Comprehensive Plan. Property owners and developers should consult the revised Plan language to ascertain its impacts on their properties.

City of Alexandria

Standard site plan conditions related to Green Building Development are being updated to match the city's 2019 Green Building Policy. Developers and interested parties should track the update to these conditions to note any change in performance standards and/or priority points that may affect any planned future development.

City of Falls Church

Public review of projects will be accelerated under a new public engagement timeline. Under this pilot program, the city's Planning Commission would host a preliminary workshop before any formal action on the development project has occurred. Although the City Council will still be responsible for ultimately reviewing the project, early feedback through this preliminary workshop will provide developers an opportunity to get initial input from the city and an idea of potential community interests as the project moves forward.

City of Fairfax

Property in the Kamp Washington area will be impacted as the city continues to move forward with facilitating community feedback on the new Kamp Washington Small Area Plan. Property owners should consider attending upcoming public meetings to provide feedback to city staff regarding the specific aspects staff should consider when developing the plan for Kamp Washington.

Prince William County

Data center development will be made easier through updates to the Data Center Opportunity Zone Overlay District and Zoning Ordinance. The study is expected to take six to nine months, and potential developers should provide input on both the location and content of this overlay area.

Fairfax County

Affordable housing policy will be updated through a Comprehensive Plan amendment to the Housing and Land Use elements of the Comprehensive Plan to develop an affordable housing preservation policy, with further updates set for June 2021.
