On April 20, 2024, the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) Alumni Association will present Claudia Lewis with the Joseph H. Hairston Award during the Association’s annual Sylvania Woods Black Alumni Homecoming event.
The Joseph H. Hairston Award recognizes American University alumni who are active in their community, in honor of Mr. Joseph H. Hairston, who was known as a passionate supporter of education and AUWCL.
This year’s theme, “Strength in Unity: Empowering Black Communities in the Fight for Democracy,” will feature panels on supporting and empowering Black lawyers, along with an awards ceremony where Claudia will be recognized for her achievements as one of the first Black women equity partners and co-chairs of the FDA Group at Venable. Claudia has also made countless contributions to supporting women and people of color, including serving on a panel with AUWCL women graduates who speak to law students about navigating the legal field and cracking the glass ceiling.
