Legal Quick Hit: "Government Investigations and Nonprofits: At Least Two Branches Are Out to Get You" for the Association of Corporate Counsel's Nonprofit Organizations Committee

This event has already occurred.

Many nonprofit organizations know that the federal executive branch has ample investigatory resources and uses them against nonprofits when it suspects accounting issues, tax issues, or other irregularities. But the legislative branch also is capable of investigations and often uses its powers for more political reasons. Learn the basics of how to prepare for a government investigation by either branch and also learn how to respond to a request for information. Responses involve not only document production, but also public relations and political considerations. Ron Jacobs and Alexandra Megaris -- who have helped successfully guide a number of nonprofits through both executive and legislative branch inquiries -- will provide you and your organization with invaluable tips, proactive strategies, and lessons developed through years of experience in this area.

Speakers:
Ronald Jacobs, Esq., Partner, Venable LLP, Washington, DC
Alexandra Megaris, Esq., Associate, Venable LLP, New York, NY
