WASHINGTON, DC (November 30, 2006)— Two attorneys from Venable LLP will enter public service in the coming year, continuing a long and distinguished tradition of Venable lawyers who have served in elected and appointed office. John P. Sarbanes, a Partner in the firm, will represent Maryland's Third District in the U.S. House of Representatives, and John B. "J.B." Howard, Jr. has been appointed to become one of Maryland's three new deputy attorneys general.

"Public service has long been a core value that Venable lawyers share," said Venable's Managing Partner Karl A. Racine.  "I know I speak for everyone at Venable when I congratulate John and J.B. on their entry into public service and wish them success as they serve the citizens of Maryland and our country."

His father, John B. Howard, Sr., is a Partner in Venable's Towson, Md. office.

Mr. Sarbanes earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School (1988) and holds an A.B., cum laude, from the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University (1984).
