Washington, D.C.  10/30/01 --- Venable is pleased to announce that partner Gerard Treanor has been named as the firm's Pro Bono Coordinator. Mr. Treanor will be the first to run the firm's pro bono program on a full-time basis. In this role, he will galvanize attorney participation in pro bono work as well as oversee pro bono mentoring and training programs at the firm.

During his career, Mr. Treanor has been involved in white-collar criminal defense work, including most of the well-publicized investigations of the past two decades. Mr. Treanor is a graduate of Holy Cross College and Catholic University Law School. After law school, he clerked for the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He later served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. He is a fellow of American College of Trial Lawyers.

As a signatory to the American Bar Association's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge, Venable has committed to provide pro bono legal services to those who are in need and otherwise unable to afford legal services. In keeping with the D.C. Commission of the Judiciary's pro bono policy, Venable encourages each attorney to contribute at least 50 hours of pro bono work per year.

Venable will continue to participate in a broad spectrum of pro bono cases from serving the needy in the community to important national-impact cases. The firm treats pro bono matters in the same manner as billable work and associates receive billable-hour credit for pro bono work.

Venable encourages everyone at the firm to become active in the community. Attorneys and staff personally devote many hours volunteering through local community groups. In addition, Venable contributes significant funds to the community through the Venable Foundation. These funds go to support a wide range of civic, cultural, and charitable endeavors in the Washington, D.C. - Baltimore Metropolitan Area as well as public interest law and legal education.
